THE CUMMINGS FAMILY. 
Capt. Jacob Cummings, b. 1689, d. Feb. 27, 1776. He came 
from Killingly, Ct., with liis family about 1734, and settled in the 
North Division of the Elbows. He obtained his land by right of 
purchase, as it had already been laid out to Steward Southgate and 
others. Several of the descendants of Capt. Cummings settled in 
Palmer after the division of the district and during the seventeenth 
century.
