Adell Ernest Sammon (1920-2013)


I am sorry to announce the passing of Adell Sammon. He was my Grandmother Rachel’s younger brother. I received this obituary from his daughter Janet yesterday:

“Adell Ernest Sammon, 92, of Marlow, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 in Marlow. Adell was born Friday Sept. 24, 1920 in Iola, Texas to John Ellis and Lillian Priscilla (Davis) Sammon. He spent most of his life since the age of 3 in the Marlow area. Adell served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal among others. On Nov. 3, 1947, Adell married the former Lola Faye Miller in Wichita Falls, Texas. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1998. He enjoyed antiques and at one time, he and Lola owned an antique store. Adell was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working in his garden. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, Brady and Hollie Sammon; and three sisters, Opal Richardson, Rachel Roork and Flossie Vandiver. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Hoyt McLemore of Marlow; a granddaughter, Candace Nash and husband Kennith of Marlow; a grandson, Jordan McLemore of Marlow; and a great-grandson, Henry Russell Nash of Marlow.”
